One Piece filler worth watching

If you add back one filler arc, make it G-8 (episodes 196-206). The post-Arabasta crew stories (131-135) are a short, easy second pick, and Uta's Past (1029-1030) is worth it if you plan to see Film: Red. Ocean's Dream is the one to try only if you want more of the early crew.

This guide covers the TV series up to episode 1,180. All of these episodes are filler: you can skip every one and still follow the story. For every label and the full skip ranges, use our One Piece filler list.

The filler we'd keep

220-226Ocean's Dream and Foxy's ReturnA lighter detour, for completists

Watch each pick where it falls in the episode order. The ranking is about what to try first, not the viewing order.

Episodes 196-206: G-8

Straight after Skypiea, the Going Merry lands in the middle of a Marine base, and the crew has to get themselves and their ship back out. It's eleven episodes with one clear goal, a cast of Marines who are good at their jobs, and a lot of comedy from the crew trying not to be noticed.

It's our top pick because it feels like a complete small arc rather than a pause. It doesn't need any later story to make sense, and it ends cleanly before Long Ring Long Land at 207.

Episodes 131-135: the post-Arabasta crew stories

Five single episodes, one each for Chopper (131), Nami (132), Sanji (133), Usopp (134) and Zoro (135). They're small stories rather than backstory reveals, and each one stands alone.

This is the easiest pick on the list. You can watch one or all five, in any combination, without losing track of anything. Just after Arabasta is also a natural point to slow down.

Episodes 1029-1030: Uta's Past

Two episodes in the middle of Wano show Luffy as a child with Shanks and Uta. They were made to go with One Piece Film: Red (2022), which is Uta's story.

Watch them if you plan to see Film: Red, then watch the film when you like. If you're skipping the films, you can skip these too. The One Piece watch order shows where each movie's tie-in episodes fall.

Episodes 220-226: Ocean's Dream and Foxy's Return

Ocean's Dream (220-224) is a mystery about stolen memories that turns the crew's usual relationships upside down. Foxy's Return (225-226) brings back Foxy, the captain from the Davy Back Fight, for a rematch.

It's lighter than G-8 and less tidy. Pick it if you're enjoying the crew's early dynamic and don't mind a slower stretch before Water 7.

Is One Piece filler worth watching?

Some of it. One Piece's filler is mostly short side trips between arcs. A few are worth seeing; most aren't needed. On a first watch, our advice is to keep G-8 and skip the rest unless a pick above sounds fun.

Which filler should I definitely skip?

Our arc sheet marks the skips, including Warship Island (54-60), Ice Hunter (326-336) and the short movie tie-ins. Keep the mixed episodes at their edges, such as 61 and 143.

Are the movie tie-in episodes worth it?

Only Uta's Past, in our view. The others promote films and work as trailers more than as stories.

How these picks were chosen

The episode numbers and filler labels use the same checked dataset as our list. The ranking is our editorial judgment, not an official one.
